National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Sen. David Mark has urged members of his party to put personal interest aside and collectively work for the unity of the party for the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians.
He urged the party members to remain focused, United and obey the constitution of the party.
Sen. Mark stated this Tuesday at the party secretariat, Abuja while recieving report of the party’s constitution review committee .
The former President of the Senate who commended the committee members for their diligent work , reminded party members that discipline was key to the success of the party.
He said “Let me begin by commending the Chairman and members of the Committee for the diligence, sacrifice, and patriotism they have demonstrated in the discharge of this critical national assignment. Constitutional review is never a routine exercise; it is a painstaking process that requires wisdom, inclusiveness, and foresight. From all indications, you have risen to the occasion.
“Our party’s constitution is not just a document; it is the soul of our collective aspirations. It defines who we are, what we stand for, and how we organize ourselves to serve the Nigerian people. Therefore, the task of reviewing it must reflect the realities of our time, the expectations of our members, and the urgent need to strengthen internal democracy, transparency, and accountability.
“I am particularly encouraged that this review process involved wide consultations across the states, zones, and critical stakeholders of our party. This inclusive approach reinforces our belief that the ADC belongs to all its members, irrespective of status or position.
As we receive this report today, let me assure you that the National Working Committee will carefully study its recommendations with utmost seriousness.
“We shall ensure that every proposal is examined in line with our core values of fairness, justice, and equity, and in the best interest of the party and our dear nation.
Let me also use this opportunity to remind us that no constitution, no matter how well crafted, can substitute for discipline, loyalty, and commitment of members. The strength of any political party lies not only in its rules but in the willingness of its members to abide by them.
“At this critical juncture in our national life, Nigerians are looking up to credible alternatives parties that are organized, principled, and people-oriented. The ADC must continue to position itself as that viable platform. A strong, clear, and forward-looking constitution is central to achieving this objective.
“I, therefore urge all party members to remain united, focused, and committed as we move to the next stage of this process. Let us put aside personal interests and work collectively to build a party that truly reflects the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians.
Once again, I thank the Constitution Review Committee for a job well done. History will remember your contribution to the growth and institutional strengthening of our great party”.
