Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has called on political appointees and public servants to intensify their efforts in the remaining months of his administration, urging them to deliver projects and services that will leave a lasting legacy for the state.
The governor made the appeal on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony of Dr. Taiwo Ladipo as a commissioner at the Executive Chambers of the Governor’s Office, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde advised the newly appointed commissioner to regard his appointment as another opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the development of Oyo State.
Ladipo, who previously served as Commissioner for Health and most recently held the position of Permanent Secretary in charge of General Administration, has now been assigned to the Ministry of Establishments and Training.
The governor also approved the redeployment of Prof. Solihu Adelabu to the Ministry of Investment, Trade, Cooperatives and Industry.
Addressing those present at the ceremony, Makinde said his administration would continue to appoint individuals whose competence and commitment align with the vision of the government.
“My government will continue to make use of individuals who fit into its vision for the state. Let me use this opportunity to clear the air on the development that created the vacancy that Ladipo filled as commissioner,” the governor said.
He explained that changes in government appointments should not necessarily be interpreted negatively, noting that such decisions are often taken to improve governance and achieve better results.
According to him, “relieving an appointee of his or her appointment should be seen as restructuring for better results.”
Makinde congratulated Ladipo on his appointment and encouraged him to justify the confidence reposed in him through dedicated service.
The governor also used the occasion to challenge all members of his administration to increase their level of commitment as his second term gradually approaches its conclusion.
He stressed the importance of ending the administration on a strong note by delivering impactful projects and policies that would positively affect the lives of the people.
“I want to also urge political appointees and government officials in this administration to remain loyal to the government, discharge your duties effectively and put in your best for the continuous growth and development of the state,” he said.
He added that the administration’s remaining months present an opportunity for officials to consolidate on achievements already recorded and ensure that ongoing programmes are successfully completed.
“It is imperative for the administration to finish strong and leave a lasting impact,” Makinde stated.
The swearing-in ceremony was attended by several senior government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal; Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin; Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Olanike Adeyemo; Chief of Staff, Segun Ogunwuyi; Head of Service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni; and Deputy Chief of Staff, Kazim Adeniyi.
Also present were the Senior Executive Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, Chief Bayo Lawal, commissioners, the Chairman of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Kamorudeen Aderibigbe, permanent secretaries and other senior government functionaries.
