Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, OGSIEC, said yesterday that votes in the local government election slated for November 16 would be counted at polling units in the presence of party agents.
This is just as the commission announced the extension of political party primaries with one week.
OGSIEC Chairman, Mr Babatunde Osibodu disclosed this during a stakeholders meeting for council elections held at the commission’s office in Abeokuta.
Osibodu said if votes are counted at polling booths, party agents and the electorate would see transparency in the way the commission handled the elections and would not accuse it of bias.
Speaking on the primaries extension, the chairman said it became necessary to give political parties more time to conduct their primaries in order to bring candidates of their choice for the election.
“The time for primaries has been extended by one week to Monday, September 16,” he stressed.
He disclosed that the commission is not planning to extend the November 16 date of the election, noting that all security apparatuses have been put in place to ensure a violent-free polls.
