Member representing Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency, Terseer Ugbor has given reasons for the withdrawal of the defamation suit instituted against the Benue State governor , Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, and two of his media aides.
Ugbor in a statement disclosed that the suit, marked MHC/422/24, also listed the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Tersoo Kula and the Principal Special Assistant to the governor on Electronic Media, Mr Isaac Uzaan, as co-defendants.
The statement, signed by the lawmaker’s Special Assistant on Media, Fred Dagu, said the case filed on October 31, 2024, experienced a series of delay, following the prolonged strike embarked upon by the Benue State judiciary, which lasted for nearly five months.
Ugbor explained that since the commencement of the case, neither the governor nor the other defendants had filed any defense in response to the suit.
According to the statement, he opted to discontinue the case because of the distraction it posed, as well as appeals by his family and friends who have consistently requested he discontinue the matter.
“My decision to withdraw suit no MHC/244/24 is entirely to avoid distraction and to concentrate fully on delivering the dividends of democracy to the people of Kwande/Ushongo Federal Constituency,” he stated.
The lawmaker emphasised that the withdrawal was in no way politically motivated, stressing that the decision was taken in the best interest of his family and the constituents he proudly represents.
He reaffirmed his unflinching political loyalty and confidence in the leadership of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Senator George Akume, whom he described as a guiding figure whose counsel and support have been invaluable since his assumption of office.
He urged the people of Benue State, particularly his constituents that he remains committed to their well-being and had delivered several relief and empowerment materials to the displaced in Kwande since the unfortunate incident orchestrated by the governor.
