Two students of Prince Abubakar Audu University have been taken into custody over the alleged murder of a 300-level Biochemistry student, David Ocholi Solomon.

The development was made public on Saturday during a condolence visit by the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, to the deceased student’s family in Lokoja.

According to a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, the two suspects were apprehended less than two hours after the incident occurred. They were subsequently transferred to security agencies for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Speaking during the visit, the Vice-Chancellor explained that the university’s internal security personnel were responsible for the swift arrest of the suspects before handing them over to law enforcement authorities.

“The suspects were arrested by the internal security of the University, and they have been handed over to the law enforcement agency for further investigation and prosecution.

“I received news of the unfortunate incident while attending the 35th Annual National Conference and Convention of the Nigerian Political Science Association at the University of Ibadan.

“This is deeply painful and distressing, as the news plunged the entire University community into mourning,” he said.

Professor Ogbo assured the bereaved family that the university is collaborating closely with security agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation and to uncover everyone connected to the crime.

He reiterated that the institution remains firmly opposed to cultism, violence, and all forms of criminal activity, stressing that enhanced security measures have already been implemented within the campus and surrounding communities.

According to him, additional security initiatives will soon be introduced to further safeguard students and prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed appreciation to Usman Ododo, traditional leaders, and security operatives for their continued support in maintaining peace and stability within the university environment.

Responding on behalf of the family, the deceased student’s father, Solomon Idachaba, thanked the university management for the condolence visit and praised the prompt arrest of the suspects.

He called on the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served and that all those responsible for his son’s death are held accountable.
