Joint Labour Movement Lambast Osun APC Over Attack On NLC Chairman

From Richard Akintade, Osogbo

Following the verbal attack on the Osun State Chairperson of  Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade  Christopher Arapasopo by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, the Joint Labour Movement has decried  the activities of the opposition party.

According to a statement made available to our correspondent yesterday in Osogbo, the movement which comprises the NLC,  Trade Union Congress, TUC, and the Joint Negotiation Council, JNC, condemned the attack, describing it as an affront to the fundamental rights and liberties of trade unions in Osun State.

The coalition said the incident was another demonstration of what it called the “tyrannical tendencies” of the APC in Osun, warning that such actions undermine the principles of social justice and the dignity of workers.

The coalition added that, “The labour movement is a vital pillar of our democracy and must be allowed to function without fear of harassment or intimidation”.

The coalition promised not to tolerate any assault on its leadership, workers or pensioners, insisting that it remains committed to defending the rights and welfare of workers in Osun State.

“Our struggle for workers rights and social justice will not be deferred by acts of tyranny. Together, we shall prevail in our pursuit of a just and equitable society, where the rights and dignity of all workers and pensioners are upheld and protected”, the movement added.
