Former Minister of Information, Jerry Gana, on Saturday accepted a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Certificate of Return on behalf of former President Goodluck Jonathan during the party’s National Convention held in Abuja.
The certificate was presented by the PDP Interim National Working Committee headed by Tanimu Turaki, a move that has once again placed Jonathan at the center of political discussions as opposition parties continue preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
The presentation ceremony took place before a gathering of party stakeholders, delegates, former government officials, state party representatives, and supporters who attended the convention in the Area 10 district of Garki, Abuja.
Gana accepted the certificate on Jonathan’s behalf and subsequently spoke to party members and journalists shortly after the event, although details of his remarks were not immediately available at the time of reporting.
The event marks a significant moment for the PDP as conversations continue regarding the party’s leadership structure, political strategy, and preparations for the next general elections.
Jonathan’s name has remained a subject of national political interest in recent months, with ongoing speculation about the role he may play in the opposition’s efforts to challenge for power in 2027.
The certificate presentation is expected to fuel further discussions within Nigeria’s political landscape, particularly among PDP supporters and stakeholders seeking to reposition the party ahead of the forthcoming electoral cycle.
The convention attracted prominent party figures and supporters who gathered to deliberate on the future of the PDP and its prospects in the next presidential contest.
While the full implications of the development remain unclear, the event has already generated considerable attention within political circles due to Jonathan’s status as a former president and his continued influence within the party.
Observers believe the move could have implications for the PDP’s internal dynamics as the party seeks to consolidate support and strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 elections.
Further details regarding the convention proceedings, resolutions, and reactions from party leaders are expected to emerge in the coming days.
