Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has removed two commissioners from the State Executive Council and nominated their replacements for confirmation by the State House of Assembly as part of a cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance.
The development comes with less than a year remaining in the current administration.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, disclosed the decision in a statement issued on Friday, describing it as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to improve governance and enhance service delivery across the state.
According to the statement, the affected commissioners are the Commissioner for Commerce, Industries and Investment, Mohammed Salis Gamawa, and Dr. Mohammed Lawal Rimin Zayam, who had recently been redeployed from the Ministry of Education to the Ministry of Power, Science and Technology.
The statement noted that both commissioners have ceased to serve in the State Executive Council with immediate effect.
It also revealed that Governor Mohammed accepted the resignation of the former Commissioner for Rural Development and Special Duties, Hon. Faruk Mustapha.
“The Governor has also accepted the resignation of the former Commissioner for Rural Development and Special Duties, Hon. Faruk Mustapha.
“In line with the administration’s commitment to ensuring continuity and efficiency in governance, the names of their proposed replacements, alongside those of other nominees intended to fill vacancies created by the earlier exit of some commissioners, have been forwarded to the Bauchi State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation,” the statement read.
Although the statement did not disclose the identities of the new nominees, it confirmed that their names had already been transmitted to the legislature for the constitutionally required screening and confirmation process.
The governor said the reshuffle forms part of efforts to sustain effective governance and ensure that ministries continue to function efficiently during the final phase of his administration.
Governor Mohammed also commended the outgoing commissioners for their contributions to the development of Bauchi State while they served in the cabinet.
He acknowledged their commitment and dedication to public service and wished them success in their future endeavours.
According to the statement, the governor remains committed to building a more responsive, effective and result-oriented government capable of meeting the expectations of the people.
“He wished them continued success in their future endeavours and reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to build a more responsive, effective, and results-oriented government for the benefit of the people of the state,” the statement added.
The cabinet changes are expected to fill existing vacancies created by previous exits from the State Executive Council and ensure continuity in the administration’s programmes and policies.
The Bauchi State House of Assembly is expected to commence the screening of the nominees in the coming days before confirming their appointments.
