Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has inaugurated a newly reconstituted State Executive Council and other top government officials, increasing the number of ministries in the state from 18 to 23 as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery during the final phase of his administration.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at the International Conference Centre in Gombe, where the governor administered the oath of office to 23 commissioners, 13 special advisers, one permanent secretary and the newly appointed Head of the Civil Service, Mu’azu Shehu.
The event attracted supporters from the state’s 11 local government areas and 13 local council development areas, who gathered to witness the inauguration of the new officials.
As part of the cabinet restructuring, Governor Yahaya established five additional ministries, including the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction and the Ministry of Livestock Development.
He explained that the creation of the livestock ministry aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and is expected to improve livestock production, strengthen value chains, enhance food security and reinforce Gombe’s status as a major livestock-producing state.
According to the governor, appointments into the new executive council were based on competence, experience and broad representation across all local government areas and local council development areas to ensure inclusive governance.
Addressing the newly sworn-in officials, Yahaya urged them to begin work immediately, noting that his administration has limited time left to deliver on its mandate before the expiration of his second and final tenure.
“We are approaching the twilight of our administration. Your achievements must become our greatest campaign tools because this government speaks through its work and verifiable performance. You have less than one year to make your mark,” he said.
The governor cautioned the appointees against corruption, abuse of office, indiscipline and divisive politics, reminding them that public office is a responsibility that must be discharged with integrity, transparency, fiscal discipline and the fear of God.
He also stressed that the success of the administration in its remaining months would depend largely on the commitment and performance of the new cabinet members.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed Head of the Civil Service, Mu’azu Shehu, announced plans to transform Gombe’s public service into a fully digital and paperless system to improve efficiency and modernise government operations.
Speaking on behalf of the commissioners, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Zubairu Umar, alongside the Commissioner for Information, Moses Bolda, and the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Mohammed Fawu, pledged to introduce innovative ideas and ensure the successful execution of priority projects before the end of the administration in May 2027.
