Speaker of Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh has restated the Assembly’s commitment to support the welfare of the girl-child.
Speaking when he received the Congregation of Sisters in Religious across the Catholic Dioceses in Benue State who were in his office for a working visit, Dajoh promised to collaborate with the group towards addressing some of the challenges confronting the girl-child in the society.
The speaker, represented by the Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, maintained that in order to achieve this, the Child Rights Act had already been domesticated in the state with plans for its passage to protect vulnerable people.
He commended the group for their concern for the vulnerable population, particularly the girl-child assuring of their support.
In a presentation, leader of the group, Sister Onyinye Anike told the speaker that the visit was to solicit the partnership of the House in addressing the challenges confronting the girl-child, including early and forced marriage, selling of children, child trafficking, among other issues.
