FRSC Hinges Road Safety On Driver’s Behaviour

Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has identified driver’s behaviour as a fundamental element in determining safety on highways.

The Sector Commander, FRSC in Jigawa State, Mr Umar Mas’udu,  said this at a news conference to signal the 2025 Ember Months Campaign, yesterday in Dutse.

The theme of the campaign is: “Take Responsibility for Your Safety: Stop Distracted Driving.”

He attributed Road Traffic Crashes, RTCs, to driver fatigue; overload, conveyence of persons in haulage vehicles and travelling with fuel in plastic containers.

According to Mas’udu, the campaign aims to address road traffic infringements by drivers resulting to higher road crashes.

He listed the infringements to include lack of adherence to road traffic laws; seat belt/speed limit violation, driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs and use of phone while driving.

Mas’udu said the corps had deployed personnel and special marshals across major highways and crash-prone areas across the state, to conduct free vehicle check exercise to improve vehicles road worthiness, motor park rallies and motorcar carnivals.

This, he said, would raise awareness among motorists and the public by organising town hall meetings, strengthen collaboration with transportation unions, security agencies and road safety stakeholders for a seamless ember months campaign.

He said the campaign was designed to reduce the occurance of crashes and road crash-realated deaths and injuries.

“Over the past months, Jigawa Sector Command achieved a milestone in strategic partnership and capacity building.

“The corps engaged driving schools to raise the  standard of drivers training, while mobile courts and stop-over operations were consituted to address persistent causes of crashes such as overloading and speed violations, which yielded remarkable results,” he said. (NAN)
