The Independent National Electoral Commission has commenced the upload of polling unit results from the Ekiti State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), following concerns raised by stakeholders over delays in making the results publicly accessible online.
Polling unit results began appearing on the portal at about 4:10 pm on Saturday, marking the start of the electronic publication of outcomes from voting centres across the state.
One of the early results uploaded to the portal showed that Ekiti State Governor and candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Biodun Oyebanji, secured victory at Polling Unit 4, Ward 2, in Ekiti South West Local Government Area.
According to the uploaded result, Oyebanji polled 140 votes to defeat the candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Dare Bejide, who received 37 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party recorded two votes at the polling unit.
As of the time the report was filed, only about 20 per cent of polling unit results had been uploaded to the IReV portal, with the commission expected to continue updating the platform as more results arrive from across the state.
The IReV portal is one of INEC’s transparency tools designed to allow voters, political parties and observers to monitor election results by viewing scanned copies of polling unit result sheets uploaded directly from voting locations.
The ongoing upload process is expected to continue alongside the collation of results at ward, local government and state levels as the commission works toward announcing the official outcome of the election.
