EFCC Debunks Viral Claim of Secret Recruitment, Warns Nigerians Against Fake Job Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed as false a viral social media claim alleging that the anti-graft agency is secretly recruiting new personnel.

The commission described the report as fake and cautioned members of the public against falling victim to misinformation and recruitment scams circulating online.

The clarification was contained in a statement shared on the EFCC’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday.

Accompanying the post was a graphic prominently labelled “FAKE NEWS” with the inscription, “THIS IS FALSE NEWS. BEWARE!”

The false message currently making the rounds on social media claimed that the EFCC had quietly commenced recruitment and that successful applicants would report for training next month.

It read: “Disturb your godfather ooo. EFCC is secretly recruiting. They are probably reporting for training next month,” while also encouraging users to send anonymous messages.

By categorically branding the report as fake, the commission urged Nigerians to ignore the claim entirely.

The EFCC explained that it does not conduct recruitment exercises secretly or through unofficial channels.

The commission reiterated that whenever vacancies exist, recruitment processes are publicly announced through its verified communication platforms and official media channels.

The agency also warned job seekers to remain vigilant, noting that fraudsters frequently exploit fake recruitment advertisements to deceive unsuspecting members of the public and extort money from them.

According to the commission, members of the public should always verify information relating to recruitment and other official activities through the EFCC’s authorised platforms before taking any action.

The anti-graft agency stressed that it remains committed to transparency in its recruitment process and urged Nigerians to disregard any recruitment notice that does not originate from its official communication channels.
