Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Uyo Zonal Directorate has apprehended 11 persons over alleged illegal mining activities.
This was announced in Uyo, Monday, in a statement by the Head of Media and Publicity, Mr Dele Oyewale.
Oyewale said the suspects were seven Chinese and four Nigerians.
He added that they were arrested on July 24 at Emem-Asuk in Eastern Obolo Local Government Area.
“The suspects were undertaking mining activities in Eastern Obolo without license. They were illegally mining ilmenite, locally known as black sand.
“They were apprehended while setting up mining equipment at a second location,” he said.
The EFCC spokesman added that the suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.
