Boat Mishap: Abbas Seeks Relief For Niger, Adamawa Victims

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas has sumpathised with the families of the victims of a boat mishap in Niger State, as well as the flooding in Adamawa State.

The speaker stated this in a condolence message signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Krishi.

According to the statement, the speaker also expressed shock over the loss of lives, destruction of property and displacement of residents.

In Niger State, about 15 passengers reportedly died in a boat mishap that occurred in Zumba, Shiroro Local Government Area, last Saturday. 

Reacting to the tragic incident, the speaker disclosed that the boat, which was carrying 43 passengers and 60 bags of paddy rice along with three cows and two rams, was on its way to Zumba weekly market when it struck a tree within the river and capsized.

In another incident, five people were reportedly killed, over 50 others injured and many displaced, following a flood that swept through several communities in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas of Adamawa State.

Expressing sorrow over the loss of lives and property in the two incidents, the speaker lamented the fate of the victims, especially as these were natural disasters.

He expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and the affected communities, along with the governments of Niger and Adamawa States.

Abbas called for intervention and relief from relevant public and private bodies for the victims.
