‎Wife of the Ebonyi State governor, Mrs Mary-Maudline Nwifuru has offset the medical bills of indigent patients at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, as part of activities marking the Easter celebration.

‎Mrs Nwifuru carried out the gesture on Saturday during a visit to the male and female surgical wards of the hospital, where several patients had been unable to leave due to unpaid bills.

‎Addressing the beneficiaries, the governor’s wife urged them not to lose hope but to remain steadfast in prayer and trust in God for healing and provision.

‎The intervention, according to reports, is part of her sustained efforts to provide financial relief to vulnerable individuals through her pet project, the BERWO Foundation.

‎The Head of Department, Medical Social Work at the hospital, Dr Sorochi Otu commended the first lady for her continued humanitarian support to patients in need.

Mrs Nwifuru extended her outreach to the Rehabilitation Programme, EFFATA in Ugbodo, Ebonyi Local Government Area, where she also paid medical bills for indigent patients and donated bags of rice.
