Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have etched their name in the history books by clinching a record-breaking fifth straight FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title, becoming the first African nation to achieve the milestone.
In a thrilling final, D’Tigress overcame a determined Malian side with a commanding 78-64 victory, securing their seventh AfroBasket championship overall.
The win also extends Nigeria’s unbeaten run in the competition to 29 games—a remarkable streak that began in 2015.
The final began with high intensity as Nigeria started brightly, but Mali edged the first quarter 26–21. D’Tigress roared back in the second quarter, drawing level at 41–41 by halftime.
The defending champions took full control in the third quarter and maintained their dominance in the final stretch, ultimately sealing a hard-fought and historic win.
