Customs Intercepts 3,461 Parcels Of Cannabis In Ogun

Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Ogun 1 Area Command said it intercepted 3,461 parcels of Cannabis sativa with a total Duty Paid Value, DPV, of N1,553,580 in various locations. 

The Area Comptroller, Mr Olukayode Afeni disclosed this while handing over the drugs to the Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Idiroko Special Area Command, Mr Olaniyi Ekundayo.

Afeni explained that the handover was in line with the commitment to strengthen partnership with other security agencies to combat drug trafficking, proliferation of small and light weapons and ensure a safer society.

According to him, as part of our inter-agency collaboration, we are handing over the intercepted parcels of cannabis sativa to the commander of NDLEA.

“We are appealing to traditional rulers to educate their youths on the dangers of using drugs,” he said.

The area comptroller reiterated the command’s commitment to fight smuggling activities that poses health and security problems to the nation.

In his response, Ekundayo said the fight against the scourge is not for NDLEA alone, but a collective responsibility.

He lauded the commitment and dedication of the area command for always being on the field to apprehend stubborn smugglers.
