Buhari’s Remains Arrive in Nigeria for Daura Burial, Tinubu Leads Mourners

The remains of former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari arrived in Nigeria from London, landing at Umaru Musa Yar’adua Airport in Katsina State, ahead of his burial in his hometown of Daura later that day.

President Bola Tinubu, Katsina State Governor Dikko Umar Radda, senior government officials, and members of Buhari’s family were present to receive the body, which was transported via a Nigerian Air Force aircraft earlier that morning.

Buhari died in London on Sunday, July 13, 2025, following a brief illness, at the age of 82.

Recall that Vice President Kashim Shettima had earlier been directed by President Bola Tinubu to lead the Federal Government’s delegation to accompany the remains of the former president to the country.

The late president is expected to be laid to rest in his hometown of Daura later today in accordance with Islamic rites.
