Islamic group, Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has described the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari as a gargantuan loss.

The family of the former president announced his death on Sunday in a London clinic.

Buhari, 82, led Nigeria as a civilian president from 2015 to 2023 and earlier as military head of state from 1983 to 1985.

He was widely recognised for his anti-corruption campaign and efforts to stabilise the economy.

Reacting to the former president’s death in a statement, the Executive Director of MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola said he was one of Nigeria’s few leaders who maintained dignity.

“The late ex-president was one of the few leaders who maintained dignity till death. Though often misunderstood, he was a complete gentleman who lived a Spartan life in and out of office. His death is a gargantuan loss to the nation as a whole.

“We commiserate with the nuclear and extended members of his family and we pray that Allah grants them the fortitude to bear the loss. We equally condole the governor and people of Katsina State, as well as Nigerians in general,” the statement partly read.
