The Nigerian police have released prominent human rights activist and former presidential candidate, human rights activist and politician, Omoyele Sowore after 48 hours in custody.

Sowore, who is also the convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, was released on Friday night.

This followed a harrowing day inside police detention. AljazirahNigeria recalls that while being interviewed by journalists, Sowore accused the authorities of denying him access to a doctor to treat his broken right hand.

He said, “Since I came here yesterday, they broke my hand and they have not been able to bring a doctor. They brought a nurse who bandaged my hand, and now they brought the media. Nobody requested for media. They are the ones who brought you people. The Nigeria police has no integrity.”

Announcing his freedom during a Facebook Live session, Sowore said: “Hello ladies and gentlemen, this is me here. I have just been released by the police.

“You know we told them that they can’t sustain this but them no dey hear word. I have just been released from detention after 48 hours by the illegal IGP and his people.”
