From Henry Ibya, Makurdi
Benue State government has flagged off the distribution of food and non-food items to displaced populations across 15 official Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camps.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, James Iorpuu, who performed the distribution at the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, headquarters yesterday in Makurdi, said the exercise was part of government’s efforts to provide relief and support to IDPs and vulnerable groups.
Iorpuu, represented by the Director of Administration, Dr Donald Komgbenda, stated that the distribution is a testament to Governor Hyacinth Alia’s people-centred leadership and commitment to improve the welfare of displaced and vulnerable populations in the state.
He said the administration had also initiated efforts to restore livelihoods and rebuild communities, including biometric review and issuance of new identity cards to IDPs, drilling of solar-powered boreholes and construction of water treatment plants.
Iorpuu appreciated international and local partners, as well as sister ministries, departments and agencies for their continued collaboration and support.
He urged all stakeholders to uphold transparency, fairness and accountability in the distribution exercise, ensuring that every item reaches its intended beneficiary.
Items distributed include 2,300 bags of 25kg rice, 600 bags of beans,1,600 cartons of indomie,150 gallons of palm oil among others.
