Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode  Egbetokun has condemned the deadly attack on police tactical teams by suspected armed herdsmen and local militia in Benue State.

The attack, which occurred on September 19 in Agatu, Katsina-Ala and Ukum Local Government Areas, resulted in the death of three police officers, with seven others still missing.

A statement signed by the Force Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyan, which was made available to journalists yesterday in Makurdi, confirmed that the police has arrested six suspects in connection with the attack.

Egbetekun  said the suspects are currently in custody and are providing useful information to aid investigation.

He also directed the deployment of additional tactical assets to the area to ensure the speedy arrest of suspects and restore peace and security in the state.

He also revealed that the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, is leading the operation to rescue the missing officers and apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Egbetekun urged members of the public to remain calm, vigilant and supportive of security agencies as they intensify efforts to rescue the missing personnel, apprehend suspects and dismantle the criminal network behind the attack.

He described the attack as cruel, unwarranted and an affront on the good people of Benue State, assuring that no stone will be left unturned in restoring peace and security in the state.

The IGP, who said the operation is ongoing, assured the public that the force is committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
