Bayern Munich Sign Luis Díaz from Liverpool in €75m Deal

Bayern Munich have officially confirmed the signing of Colombia international Luis Díaz from Liverpool in a deal worth €75 million ($88m), including add-ons.

Díaz becomes Bayern’s third major signing of the summer following the arrivals of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah and Hoffenheim midfielder Tom Bischof.

“I’m very happy; it means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern. They’re one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Díaz said in a statement.
“I want to help my new team with my style of play and character. My goal is to win every possible title, and that’s what we’ll work towards every day as a team.”

The 27-year-old missed Liverpool’s recent preseason friendly defeat against AC Milan due to intensifying speculation surrounding his future. He was subsequently granted permission to leave the club’s preseason tour of Asia on Sunday to finalize the transfer.

Sources close to the deal revealed that Díaz had first expressed a desire to leave Anfield in the summer of 2024, despite having a contract that runs until 2027. Liverpool initially resisted interest while evaluating their squad and transfer market options.

Two attempts to agree on a contract extension ultimately failed, as negotiations broke down due to a gap between the player’s wage demands and the club’s offer.

Díaz leaves Liverpool on the back of his most prolific season at the club, scoring 17 goals in all competitions and playing a key role in their Premier League title-winning campaign under new manager Arne Slot.

The Colombian forward joined Liverpool from FC Porto in January 2022 in a deal worth up to €49 million and went on to score 41 goals in 148 appearances for the club.

His departure will help offset some of Liverpool’s heavy spending this summer, with the club having already invested around £290 million on Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and Hugo Ekitike.
