The governor of Bayelsa State, Douye Diri, has stepped down from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a development he disclosed on Wednesday within the executive council chamber at the state Government House.
Diri, during the announcement, refrained from specifying the next political affiliation he intends to pursue.
His choice garnered support from 23 lawmakers in the state House of Assembly, spearheaded by the presiding officer.
Diri’s defection came 24 hours after his Enugu State counterpart, Peter Mbah, dumped the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
