The Arewa Youth Movement (AYM) has issued a formal letter of commendation extolling the exceptional leadership and far-reaching reforms currently defining Nigeria’s power transmission sector under the stewardship of the Managing Director of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN). Engr Sule Ahmed Abdul-Aziz

In the letter personally signed by its President, Sa’ad Aboki, the organisation said its conclusion followed an extensive verification exercise conducted across TCN’s eight regional formations from October 5 to 19, 2025.

According to the group, the nationwide assessment provided clear and unfiltered evidence of unprecedented progress and renewed technical vitality across the national grid.

Aboki noted that the Nigerian Electricity Grid Maintenance, Expansion and Rehabilitation Programme, as executed by TCN’s leadership, reflects deep technical mastery, administrative discipline, and a strategic vision aligned with national development aspirations.

Major Infrastructure Upgrades Verified: The report highlighted several completed and ongoing transmission projects that have significantly strengthened the national grid. These include: Installation of 2 × 60MVA, 132/33kV substations in Dawaki, Wumba, Lokogoma, Ogbomosho, Amasiri, Ogoja, and Lafiya.

Completion of the massive Kano transmission complex, comprising 2 × 150MVA, 330/132/33kV and 2 × 60MVA, 132/33kV substations—one of the most important grid expansion investments in northern Nigeria.

Near-completed installations of the New Apo, Kuje, and West Main Lugbe substations, each equipped with robust 330/132/33kV capacity to address longstanding transmission constraints in the Federal Capital Territory.

A significant upgrade of the Kaduna–Jos transmission corridor, where multi-circuit towers have boosted wheeling capacity from 500MW to 1,500MW.

“These upgrades are tangible indicators of the renewed momentum in the transmission sector. They stand as physical evidence of leadership driven by foresight, technical excellence, and unwavering commitment to national progress,” the letter stated.

Technical Expertise and Institutional Reforms Recognised. The AYM also praised the TCN MD’s academic and administrative pedigree, describing him as a first-class engineer whose prior service as Regional Transformation Manager in Shiroro and Abuja provided the depth required to navigate complex grid operations.

Beyond engineering deliverables, the group observed significant institutional improvements within TCN, including:strengthened workplace culture improved staff motivation and training enhanced operational discipline stronger collaboration with national security agencies fortified perimeter and infrastructure security across substations upgraded control rooms, switchboards, feeders, and relay systems.

“These changes reflect a commitment to systemic renewal rather than superficial intervention,” Aboki noted.

AYM Issues Vote of Confidence, Warns Against Misinformation. The Arewa Youth Movement delivered an unequivocal vote of confidence in the TCN leadership, asserting that ongoing reforms are verifiable and measurable—not theoretical or exaggerated.

The group, however, expressed concern over what it called blackmail, misinformation, and smear campaigns orchestrated by certain Civil Society Organisations (CSOs). It urged such groups to adopt a fact-based and patriotic approach to national discourse.

“Nigeria needs champions of development, not purveyors of mischief. National progress thrives on collaboration, truth, and constructive engagement,” the statement read. Hope for 2027 Stability Target.

While acknowledging the ambitious national target of stabilising electricity supply by 2027, AYM said the current trajectory and ongoing reforms demonstrate that it is attainable with sustained commitment.

“History remembers leaders who build enduring systems. The structures rising across the grid—from new substations to strengthened transmission lines—are lasting imprints of visionary leadership,” the group added.
