The Allied People’s Movement (APM) has announced that it has developed a comprehensive governance blueprint designed to transform Nigeria’s economy, strengthen national security, rebuild critical infrastructure and improve the welfare of citizens if elected into office in 2027.
The party said the document outlines a long-term strategy for reviving the country’s productive sectors, restoring confidence in governance and reversing what it described as years of economic decline and insecurity.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, the APM said the proposed blueprint also contains plans to overhaul Nigeria’s security architecture to effectively combat terrorism, kidnapping and other violent crimes while ensuring the protection of lives and property.
The party accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of governing the country without a clear economic direction over the past decade, particularly during the last three years.
According to the statement, the absence of a coherent development strategy has resulted in poor governance, widespread corruption and policies that have worsened the living conditions of Nigerians.
“It is tragic that in the last 10 years, and especially in the last three years, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has governed Nigeria without a coherent economic blueprint, resulting in confused, careless and rudderless governance characterised by massive corruption and reckless anti-people policies,” the party stated.
The APM argued that the alleged policy failures have contributed to rising unemployment, inflation, deteriorating infrastructure and worsening insecurity across the country.
The party further claimed that official and independent reports indicate that approximately 628,000 Nigerians have been killed over the past three years, while more than 2.2 million people, including women and children, have been abducted.
It also alleged that poverty has reached 63 per cent, with unemployment standing above 33 per cent and over 140 million Nigerians currently living below the national poverty line.
According to the opposition party, insecurity, economic instability and unfavourable government policies have forced many multinational companies to leave Nigeria.
The statement further noted that the country has experienced an unprecedented wave of migration by skilled professionals and young people seeking better opportunities abroad.
“Due to worsening insecurity, a collapsed public service and economic inflation exacerbated by unhealthy taxes and tariffs, major multinationals have been exiting our nation in droves. Over 3.7 million Nigerian youths and professionals have fled the country in what is now known as the ‘Japa’ phenomenon, resulting in the worst brain drain ever, especially in the education and health sectors,” the statement added.
The APM expressed concern that despite Nigeria’s abundant natural resources and large population, millions of citizens continue to struggle with poverty and the high cost of living.
The party maintained that rising prices of food and essential goods have made it increasingly difficult for many families to meet their daily needs.
It also criticised the Federal Government’s borrowing profile, alleging that excessive debt accumulation has failed to translate into visible development projects.
“More distressing is that the future of over 250 million Nigerians is being mortgaged to foreign interests by the APC through reckless borrowing, which has hit a frightening N159.28 trillion, with nothing on the ground to show for it, as most of the proceeds are reported to have been diverted to private purses,” the party claimed.
The APM said the current economic and social challenges have created widespread frustration among Nigerians, adding that many citizens are now seeking an alternative political platform capable of delivering meaningful reforms.
According to the party, its governance blueprint places emphasis on inclusive economic growth, prudent management of public resources, industrial development, youth empowerment and improved public service delivery.
The proposed policy framework also seeks to stimulate investment in strategic sectors including agriculture, oil and gas, electricity, manufacturing, housing, healthcare and education.
“APM’s blueprint comes with a new and transparent approach to governance. An approach that puts Nigerians first, prioritising inclusive human development and well-being through people-oriented policies and prudent management of resources that guarantee security of lives and property, industrialisation, massive youth employment, national infrastructural revolution, efficient public service and sustainable prosperity for all,” the statement said.
The party added that the blueprint contains measures aimed at attracting foreign direct investment, encouraging private-sector participation and expanding employment opportunities for Nigerian youths.
It further stated that anti-corruption reforms would form a central component of its administration, with strict accountability measures and transparent governance processes.
“Also, importantly, the APM blueprint offers strict checks against corruption and policy opacity, with unbending rules for accountability to the people,” the statement added.
The opposition party assured Nigerians that the complete governance blueprint would be officially presented at the appropriate time as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
It pledged to operate an inclusive government anchored on transparency, the rule of law, social justice, freedom of expression and respect for the rights of all Nigerians.
“In government, the APM will be a listening party, committed to transparency, good governance, social justice, adherence to the rule of law, freedom of speech, respect for the rights of citizens and the overall well-being of all Nigerians,” the statement concluded.
