The Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Zaka Maikalangu, has emphasized the need for improved service delivery and accountability within the council. He expressed concern over the alleged leakage of sensitive information and urged staff to adhere to the directives of their superiors.
Maikalangu made is disclosure at the working visit of administrative secretary of area council services commission to AMAC urging the staff members to be adherence to directives.
“Staff should follow the instructions of their directors and department heads without question. Public servants should defend council decisions and policies at all costs”.
The chairman emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the council’s operations, saying staff found guilty of misconduct and will face consequences, including possible redeployment or dismissal.
The chairman also expressed appreciation for the hard work and commitment of council staff, noting that they have done an excellent job in providing rural infrastructure and services to communities.
He urged staff to continue working diligently to ensure that the council delivers on its mandate, highlighting the importance of empowering communities through social activities, healthcare services, and economic empowerment programs.
He emphasized the need to provide support to vulnerable members of society, including the elderly and rural dwellers.
The chairman reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the council delivers on its mandate and provides value to the people it serves, urging staff to work together to achieve the council’s goals and to maintain the highest standards of integrity and accountability.
The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) commended the chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), for his exceptional leadership and commitment to the welfare of staff.
He said Maikalangu has shown empathy and support for staff, particularly in times of need praising the chairman for ensuring that hazard allowances were paid to relevant staff and the dedication to duty and commitment to the well-being of staff.
The union leader, Comrade Hassan Haruna, expressed his appreciation for the Chairman’s efforts, stating that he has never been happier since being employed in AMAC.
He praised the Maikalangu willingness to listen to staff concerns and address them promptly.
The union leader urged the AMAC Chairman to continue supporting staff and addressing their concerns.
He also called for the council to prioritize staff welfare and ensure that their rights are protected.
In her welcome Remarks, the Head of Administration, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hazara Abdullahi Umar welcomed the staff and chairman and the entire council for the Working Tour, saying their visit is a privilege and she’s confident that the insights shared will further strengthen the capacity to serve the people of Abuja Municipal Area Council effectively.
“We deeply appreciate the Commission’s role as our employer and guiding authority, and we value this opportunity to interact directly, receive guidance, and better understand your expectations for improved service delivery”.
She commended the Heads of Departments, the divisional Heads, the leadership of NULGE, and the dedicated staff of the Council for their unwavering commitment to duty. Our Council is proud to be gender sensitive, with six women currently serving as Heads of Departments.
She appreciated the Chairman, AMAC, for giving women the opportunity to serve the Council in various capacities, thereby promoting inclusiveness and balance in his administration.
