The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has selected the member representing Illela/Gwadabawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Bello Ambarura, as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Sokoto State.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Sokoto State Publicity Secretary of the party, Lamir Aminu, who confirmed that Ambarura will contest alongside the party’s governorship flag bearer, Manir Muhammad Dan-Iya.
According to Aminu, the choice of Ambarura followed broad consultations among party stakeholders and was made in line with the provisions of Section 187(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
He explained that the decision reflects the party’s commitment to presenting a leadership team with the competence, experience and capacity required to govern Sokoto State effectively.
“The nomination was made in accordance with Section 187(1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), following wide consultations and careful consideration of the qualities required to build a strong, competent and people-oriented leadership team for Sokoto State,” Aminu stated.
The party described Ambarura as an accomplished administrator with decades of public service experience before venturing into partisan politics.
According to the statement, he steadily rose through the ranks of the Sokoto State Civil Service, eventually attaining the position of Permanent Secretary before his appointment as Commissioner for Commerce and Industries.
Ambarura later entered elective politics and was elected into the Sokoto State House of Assembly in 2019.
During his tenure in the state legislature, he served as the Majority Leader until the completion of his term in 2023.
Following the 2023 general elections, he secured victory to represent Illela/Gwadabawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, where he currently serves.
The ADC expressed confidence that his extensive background in governance, administration and legislative affairs would strengthen the party’s governorship ticket ahead of the 2027 election.
The party said Ambarura’s experience would complement the leadership qualities of its governorship candidate and enhance the party’s vision of providing effective and people-focused governance in Sokoto State.
“His extensive experience in public administration and legislative service will complement the vision and leadership of His Excellency, Hon. Manir Muhammad Dan-Iya, as the ADC presents a capable, credible and people-centred ticket for the 2027 governorship election,” Aminu added.
The ADC also congratulated Ambarura on his emergence as the party’s deputy governorship candidate and urged members, supporters and residents of Sokoto State to rally behind the Dan-Iya/Ambarura ticket.
The party maintained that the combination of both candidates reflects its determination to offer voters an experienced and credible alternative capable of addressing the developmental needs of the state.
