As the sons and daughters of Ikare-Akoko gather to celebrate this year’s Annual Yam Festival, I join the entire community in honouring this cherished tradition that continues to connect our people with their rich history, culture, and ancestral heritage.
In a statement signed on Saturday by Ondo North Senatorial District Senator Jide Ipinsagba Olajide Ipinsagba, PhD
The Yam Festival is far more than a celebration of harvest; it is a profound symbol of hard work, gratitude, communal unity, and cultural continuity—values that have sustained our people across generations. It reminds us that a people who preserve their heritage preserve their identity, and a people who remain connected to their roots secure a stronger future.
I warmly salute the traditional institutions of Ikare, whose enduring efforts in preserving our customs, promoting peace, and safeguarding our cultural treasures remain invaluable. I also extend my heartfelt greetings to our revered elders, vibrant youths, industrious women, dedicated farmers, community leaders, cultural groups, and the numerous visitors who have joined in this celebration of identity and togetherness.
To our hardworking farmers, whose labour transforms the earth’s promise into prosperity for the people, this festival stands as a fitting recognition of your resilience and immense contribution to the growth of our community.
To our youth, you are the bridge between our heritage and the future. May you continue to uphold the values and traditions that make Ikare unique among the proud communities of Akokoland.
The beauty of the Yam Festival lies not only in its colourful ceremonies and festivities but also in its power to unite families, strengthen communal bonds, reconnect old friends, welcome visitors, and remind us that despite our differences, we share a common history and a common destiny.
As the drums echo across the hills and valleys of Ikare land and the spirit of celebration fills our hearts, may this year’s festival usher in renewed peace, abundant harvests, greater prosperity, and deeper unity in every household and every quarter of our community.
May our cultural heritage continue to flourish.
May our people continue to prosper.
And may Ikare-Akoko remain a shining symbol of tradition, progress, and communal harmony.
Happy Yam Festival to the great people of Ikare-Akoko.
