Kaduna: Uba Sani Distributes 500 Trucks Of Fertilizer To Farmers Across 23 LGAs

The Kaduna State Government said it had distributed a total of 500 trucks equivalent to 15, 000 metric tonnes of fertilizer to farmers across the state.

This is even as the government also said about 240, 000 bags of the fertilizer will be given to 120, 000 small holder farmers for free.

Addressing the farmers Monday during the flag -off ceremony held at Murtala Square, Governor Uba Sani said the smallholder farmers who would benefit from this exercise were carefully selected by an all inclusive, non – partisan Committee made up of representatives of the Kaduna State Chapter of All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Kaduna State Council of Chiefs, Kaduna Elders Forum, Nigeria Labour Congress, Religious Bodies, Security Agencies, and the Kaduna State Government.

He said the initiative clearly demonstrates their steadfast commitment to empowering farmers in the state as well as re-energizing the agricultural sector.

“According to our latest GDP report, agriculture contributes 42.81% to Kaduna State’s GDP and employs 42% of the total workforce, although agriculture is not only the backbone of our state’s economy but also a vital contributor to our overall growth and development.”

While reiterating Kaduna State’s Significant role in Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, Governor Uba pointed that Kaduna has been ranked first in the production of ginger which contributes 76.4% to the national output.

Additionally, “We also lead in maize production, contributing 7.4% of the national yield, and we rank second in soybeans production, contributing 9.4%.”

The governor also said his administration since taking office in May 2023 had ensured food security, promoting rural livelihoods, and driving economic growth across the state.

He however, highlighted his achievements to include ; Tallafin Noma (A Koma Gona) initiative, a part of the broader palliative program which targeted 42,000 small holder farmers and cooperatives across the state’s 23 LGAs. Adding, “We have distributed quality seeds, agrochemicals, NPK and urea fertilizers, power tillers, vegetable grinders, and knapsack sprayers with personal protective equipment among others.

“These initiatives are part of our comprehensive strategy to enhance agricultural productivity, improve rural infrastructure, and support our farmers, as such, I urge all farmers to use them responsibly and efficiently.” He said.
