The Amateur Basketball Academies, ABA, are putting finish touches to its maiden Federal Capital Territory Basketball Academies championship scheduled for July, with the setting up of seven Organising championship committees

The Committees include the Main Organising Committee to be headed by the ABA President, DC Aliyu Abubakar. The committee is saddled with overall coordination and supervision before, during and after the championship.
The Technical Committee to be led by Mike Akubo will handle fixtures, rules and regulations, referees, game scheduling, as well as statistics while the Media and Publicity Committee chaired by Kayode Adeniyi will be responsible for creating Social media content, writing of Press releases, Photography, Live streaming and production of Promos and jingles as well as coordinating the media throughout the league period.
The Finance and Sponsorship Committee under DC Abubakar will take charge of budgeting, sponsorship, financial accountability, and fundraising while the welfare and logistics committee which will be chaired by Coach Emmanuel Odah will cater for Accommodation of Athletes and their coaches, match officials, transportation, refreshments and medical support.
The Security and Safety Committee under Nuhu Sam will work with other security agencies, medical personnel, as well as emergency response teams, while the Accreditation Committee under the command of Coach Adeka Daudu will be in charge of registration, Player verification, ID cards, and Eligibility screening.
Inaugurating the committees, the Academies President, Professor Lucky Aliyu Abubakar said the proposed championship by Amateur Basketball Academies, ABA, will not merely be a competition for trophies, but a comprehensive developmental project aimed at nurturing future basketball stars, promoting sportsmanship, creating opportunities for scholarships, and strengthening basketball structures in the FCT and Nigeria at large.
” Basketball has continued to grow rapidly in Nigeria, especially among younger players in the FCT. The game has become a powerful tool for youth development, talent discovery, education, discipline, leadership, and social integration. Organising a well-structured basketball academies championship provides a platform for identifying talented players, exposing them to opportunities, and promoting grassroots basketball development.” He said.
The championship will include different age categories like U-10, U-12, U-14, U-16 and U- 18 both in male and female division to ensure fairness and developmental balance.The championship will also witness Individual Awards, like MVP, Best Shooter, best Defender, Highest Scorer, best Coach, Most Disciplined Team, rising Star Award.
The academies reaffirmed its commitment to building a professionally managed and globally competitive basketball academies structure capable of delivering sustainable growth, improved players performance, and increased participation at all states of the federation.
