Donald Trump has officially welcomed Kayode Are as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States.

The development comes amid commendation from the national leadership of accredited Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and Community-Based Organisations (CBOs), coordinated by the Civil Society Organisations on Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative, popularly known as CSCHEI.

The organisation praised Bola Tinubu for appointing Ambassador Are as Nigeria’s envoy to Washington, describing the decision as a strategic move capable of strengthening diplomatic and bilateral relations between Nigeria and the United States.

CSCHEI, which identified itself as a United Nations-recognised platform promoting accredited CSOs and CBOs in Nigeria, stated that appointing a diplomat with experience in intelligence, security, and international diplomacy would help deepen cooperation between both countries.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, Kunle Yusuff, the organisation noted that Nigeria and the United States have maintained a longstanding partnership that continues to impact several critical sectors.

According to the statement, the relationship between both countries has produced benefits in areas including healthcare, education, security, aviation, industry, and the oil and gas sector.

The group also appreciated the United States government for formally accepting Ambassador Are and facilitating the commencement of his diplomatic duties in Washington.

CSCHEI further disclosed that its development partner, Africa United Congress USA, expressed confidence in Ambassador Are’s ability to represent Nigeria effectively in the United States.

The organisation stated that the ambassador’s diplomatic background, professional record, and reputation for integrity position him well to advance Nigeria’s interests and strengthen bilateral engagement.

According to the statement, Ambassador Are’s official resumption and reception by President Trump represent a renewed opportunity for stronger development-focused diplomacy and improved institutional collaboration between Nigeria and the United States.

The group also said the development is expected to open new opportunities for cooperation involving United States-based international non-governmental organisations, development institutions, and accredited CSOs and CBOs operating in Nigeria.

“The global community witnessed the official presentation at the Oval Office of the White House on Thursday, May 21. Capacity and performance in diplomacy are evident, and accredited civil society and community-based organisations in Nigeria are proud of Ambassador Kayode Are’s representation of the country,” the statement read.

Observers believe the appointment may further strengthen diplomatic engagement between Abuja and Washington, particularly in areas of security cooperation, economic development, humanitarian partnerships, and institutional collaboration.
