The Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Christopher Maikalangu Zakka, expressed gratitude to residents for re-electing him for a second term.
He appreciated the entire AMAC community for their continued trust, noting that his first tenure was marked by significant achievements in infrastructure and human capital development.
He made the disclosure on Monday during his first entry to office, saying the people came out in their numbers and cast their votes. “I want to sincerely thank them for the mandate to serve again,” he said.
“By the grace of God, just as I performed well during my first term which my people can attest to I will do even more in my second term. I sincerely appreciate our market women, traders, and all residents of AMAC for their support. You can see that everyone here, including my staff, is happy,” he added.
Maikalangu also thanked the staff of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, LEA staff, and other agencies for their dedication. He extended appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory for their support.
“We will not disappoint the people. What they expect from us are the dividends of democracy, and by God’s grace, we will deliver,” he assured.
Responding to a question about his opponents in the election, the chairman said he remains open to working with everyone.
“I am free for everyone. I welcome all. They are free to come, and I will carry everybody along. The AMAC election is a local affair, it is about the people. My people understand relationships and visible impact more than grammar. They value your presence and what you give back to them.
“That is why you see me everywhere — during festive periods and at community events. I am always with them in good and bad times. That is what leadership is about,” he said.
On his priorities for the second term, Maikalangu acknowledged the council’s size and the challenges facing rural communities.
“AMAC is the largest area council in the country. We have many rural areas without electricity. In my second term, I will focus on electrification in those communities. While we have constructed roads, our resources cannot address every community’s needs at once. We will ensure equitable distribution — some communities will get electricity, some schools, and others health centres,” he stated.
Speaking, Vice Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Yusuf Nadabo, expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and the electorate for the council’s victory at the polls.
Nadabo appreciated residents for their confidence in the leadership, assuring them that their expectations would be met.
“Whatever expectations the people have for the Executive Chairman, he has the capacity to do even more. We are grateful for their support and trust,” he added.
