Cable Thief Electrocuted In Akwa Ibom

A 32 – ,year – man has been electrocuted at Mbierebe Obio community in Ibesikpo Asutan local government area of Akwa Ibom State, our Correspondent garthered at the weekend in Uyo, the State capital.

It was learnt the sad incident occurred in the early morning hours at about 4:30 am, while the deceased was trying to vandalise electric cables.

Usungobong Jacob, a local resident said his lifeless remains were discovered by some women returning from morning Church prayers.

Incidences of vandalisation of electricity infrastructure in the communities, according to him, have been a recurrent demimal with freequent power outages forcing businesses including welding, fabrication, salons and drinking pubs to a lull.

The commissioner of Police (CP), Waheed Ayilara, has spoken of the activities of syndicate from the neihbouring Abia State specializing in vandlisation of electricity installations with the aid of local Akwa Ibom criminals.

He listed the most affected local governments to include the adjoining LGAs within the precinct of Abia, especially Ika, Etim Ekpo and Oruk Anam, warning that his operatives are combat -ready to maintain the prevailing peace in the State and warned criminal elements to leave the State or be prepared for the superior firepower of the Police.

Several such criminals, who were rounded up recently, he said, would soon have their days in Court.
