FROM IKHILI EBALU, BENIN CITY
Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Edo State branch has commended the state police command, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Monday Agbonika, for the successful arrest of a suspect linked to the abduction of one of its members.
The commendation followed the command’s announcement on the arrest of three members of a kidnap gang involved in the abduction of Dr Ibrahim Abu and Tahir Abu.
The State Chairman of the association, Dr Eustace Oseghale and Secretary, Dr Iluobe Inegbenosun, in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin, lauded the efforts of the police in bolstering security throughout the state.
Oseghale stated that the recent capture of a kidnap suspect was a clear demonstration of dedication and commitment to safeguard doctors and residents.
AljazirahNigeria recalls that the two doctors, who work at the Edo State University Teaching Hospital, Auchi, and Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, respectively, were abducted at Auchi axis and Illeh road in Ekpoma.
Reacting to the abductions which occurred on January 1 and 2, the NMA withdrew medical services across the state on January 10.
“We are confident that this breakthrough will be pursued with utmost diligence, leading to justice for the perpetrators and a significant reduction in kidnapping incidents in the state. Your efforts will be surely etched in the sands of history,” the association said in a statement.
It would be recalled that the Edo State Police Command had on Sunday confirmed the arrest of three members of the kidnap gang.
