Tinubu Can Still Avert Protest, Says APC Chieftain, Jackson Ojo

Date:

…Calls for Ministers removal

By Mike Odiakose, Abuja

A Chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and Security Expert, Chief Lekan Jackson Ojo has expressed optimism that the looming nationwide strike can be averted if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu takes proactive steps to address the grievances of aggrieved Nigerians.

In a telephone interview, Chief Jackson Ojo declared that those planning to go on protest have nothing personal against President Tinubu of other elected public office holders.

According to him, two days is enough to address the key issues raised by organisers of the protests.

“Nigerians that are planning to protest are not angry with Mr. President, they are not angry with Senators or with the system.

“They are angry with poverty, they are angry with hunger, they are angry with lack of good education, they are angry with lack of good health care facilities and they are angry with insecurity.

“I think the responsibility of Mr. President majorly is not governing Nigeria but governing Nigerians and when Nigerians cry out I think between now and August 1 a lot of things can be done.

“If the price of petrol product is reduced today to N300 to N400 there won’t be protest again because it will affect all facets of life.”

Chief Jackson Ojo also called on security agencies to be very professional and maintained global standard when they go out to maintain security during the protests and ensure no innocent life is lost.

“This protest you like or you don’t like it, Mr. President and Security agencies like it or not, it will go on. After the protests that will be an introduction to anarchy if what they are crying for the government did not do it.

“To me something can still be done between now and August 1 to avert a situation where some angry Nigerians from families without good value may want to hijack the protest but security agencies should handle that.”

Chief Jackson Ojo also called on President Tinubu to rejig his cabinet and sack non-perfoming Ministers who are standing with arms at akimbo while the nation is going through hard times.

According thim, some of the Ministers are not interested in the actualisation of the Renewed Hope agenda of President Tinubu.

“We are in a country where every blame goes squarely to the table of Mr President. Mr. President is only one person in the Presidency.

“He is not omnipresent, he cannot be everywhere; he is not omnipotent that can do everything and he is not omniscience that he knows everything.

“He has Ministers, if I am not mistaken nothing less than 38 Minister; he has Special Advisers; Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and others. What are all these people doing?

“Among the Ministers I won’t pick more than two or three of them. What are these Ministers doing apart from earning salaries and allowances?

“Some of them are even working towards the downfall of Mr President so that in 2027 they have their way to go.

“When your enemy has been planted to work with you you will not know. You will appoint them but they are your enemies.

The fact that you appointed them does not mean they want the best for you but whatever is their actions or inactions the blame goes to the table of Mr President.

“I want Mr President to rejig his cabinet, some people must give way.”
