The Nigerian Defence Headquarters, DHQ has assured commitments to provide necessary assistance to state government to secure schools .
The Director of Defence Media Operations, DMO Major General Micheal Onoja made this known during a press briefing in Abuja .
He explained that the military is working with the Safe School Initiatives in safeguarding school nationwide .
According to him, the Armed Forces of Nigeria is dedicated to continue to operate within the ambit of the law.
He assured that the military are enhancing their operational tempo in the light of the renewed security threats until peace is returned to all troubled areas of the country.
Major General Onoja assured Nigerians that the armed forces are emplacing all necessary measures, systems and activities humanly possible to ensure that the remaining students recently abducted are rescued and returned to their families unhurt.
“At the point that the schools were closed, they were reports that the threat was high. So the various state governments, in their wisdom, took a decision, as well as the federal government took a decision that certain schools should be closed. I think that was that has been in the last two weeks or so. So it is possible that there is a new security report that has necessitated this new decision to close the schools.
“However, on the part of the defense headquarters and the emphasis of Nigeria, we are always ready and willing at any time to provide any necessary assistance that any state government requires to secure the schools. Of course, working in conjunction with the Safe Schools Initiative, I’m sure you know that the Safe Schools Initiative is doing a lot of work in safeguarding the schools and is domiciled at the Civil Defense recorders,” he noted.
He called for support of the veterans on the Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem that was launched by Mr President .
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria is dedicated to continue to operate within the ambit of the law. We convey our assurances that we are enhancing our operational tempo in the light of the renewed security threats until peace is returned to all troubled areas of the country,” he stated.
