Chairman of National Union of Local Government Employees, NULGE, Sapele Branch, Comrade Mercy Igeyen, paid a “thank you” visit to members of the legislative arm, expressing gratitude for their show of love and financial support following the loss of her younger sister.
During the session, the Leader of Sapele Legislative Arm, Samuel Azu, in his speech, welcomed the NULGE chairman and her entourage.
He described the visit as a noble act of appreciation, emphasizing that such gestures strengthen the bond between the legislative arm and the workforce of the local government.
According to Azu, “We are deeply honoured by this visit from NULGE’s leadership. It shows humility, gratitude and respect for the institution of governance at the local level. As legislators, we understand that our work is directly tied to the welfare of local government workers who are the engine room of development in Sapele. We will continue to partner NULGE to ensure better working conditions, transparency and people-focused legislation.”
He assured the NULGE chairman that the eighth Assembly remains committed to enacting laws and resolutions that will enhance service delivery and promote the overall development of Sapele Local Government Area.
Speaking earlier, Comrade Igeyen expressed deep appreciation to the legislative arm for standing by her family in their time of sorrow. She noted that their visit, condolence messages and financial contributions during her bereavement meant a great deal to her and her loved ones.
“When I lost my dear younger sister a few months ago, you did not only visit me, but also supported my family financially. Your gesture brought comfort to us in our moment of grief. I have worked with previous assemblies, but I must say that this eighth Assembly is quite different, your sense of unity, compassion and cooperation is commendable,” she said.
Igeyen stated that NULGE and the legislative arm share a strong relationship built on mutual respect and collaboration. She prayed that the bond would continue to grow stronger, adding that, “It is my earnest prayer that future visits to this legislative arm will not be during times of sorrow, but during moments of joy and celebration.”
In addition, she urged the lawmakers to continue making laws that would positively impact the lives of the people of Sapele Local Government Area.
“As representatives of the people, I encourage you to make laws that will improve the welfare of our people, promote peace and drive development in every community within Sapele. Together, we can make our local government a model of good governance and service delivery,” she added.
