The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has suspended its two-week warning strike declared last week across public universities nationwide.
The announcement was made on Wednesday during a press conference held at the union’s national secretariat in Abuja.
ASUU President, Dr Chris Piwuna, who addressed journalists, said the suspension followed the intervention of the Senate and other well-meaning Nigerians concerned about the disruption of academic activities.
He explained that the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) decided to give the Federal Government a one-month window to resolve all outstanding issues affecting university lecturers.
According to Piwuna, the union expects the government to demonstrate commitment to implementing the agreements reached before the deadline expires.
