Yobe State governor, Mai Mala Buni has reiterated his government’s redness to support the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to combat trafficking and abuse of illicit drug in the state.
The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday at a ceremony where large quantities of illicit drugs impounded by the agency were burnt. The occasion took place at Kasaisa village near Gujba-Maiduguri new bypass.
The governor, represented by his Deputy, Idi Gubana, said the event underscored the unwavering commitment of the NDLEA to protect the society, especially youths from the devastating effects of drugs abuse.
He noted that government has made several efforts to fight drug and other substance abuse in the state so as to build a drug-free society in the 17 local government areas.
According to him, drug use and abuse is a significant contributor to insecurity which has displaced thousands of people.
The governor commended the ministry of religious affairs and ethical re-orientaion, as well as HISBA H for their efforts in educating the public on the dangers of drug abuse.
In a keynote address, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brigadier-General Muhammad Marwa (rtd) represented by the Director of Operations and General Investigation, Ahmad Ningi, said the event is not only a statutory requirement, but a public demonstration of accountability, transparency and victory over criminal enterprises.
He noted that the agency will not rest on its oars, but will continue to explore all avenues within the ambit of the law to rid the country of the menace of hard drugs.
Also speaking the State Commandant, NDLEA, Abdulazeez Ogunboye, expressed gratitude to the state government for its unwavering support, especially the recent donation of a patrol vehicle.
AljazirahNigeria recalls that government had procured patrol vehicles for security agencies including NDLEA ,NAPTIP and NAFDAC considering the critical roles that they play in safeguarding the future of the society.
