Following the impressive performance of Nigeria’s national teams at the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Hockey Championship in Egypt — particularly the men’s team — the President of the Nigeria Hockey Federation, Engr. Simon Nkom, paid a morale-boosting visit to the players in Ismailia, Egypt.
Engr. Nkom encouraged the players not to relent in their efforts and charged them to remain focused on securing a podium finish by the end of the tournament.
Nigeria’s men’s team began their campaign on a strong note, securing a thrilling 2–1 victory over arch-rivals Ghana in their opening match.
They went on to defeat Zambia convincingly with a 5–1 scoreline in their third group game. So far, the team has played three matches, recording two wins and one loss — a performance that has ignited hope and excitement among fans back home.
While the women’s team has faced tougher challenges, with results not going their way, the Federation President also offered words of encouragement, urging them to stay motivated and keep striving for success.
Engr. Nkom’s visit comes at a crucial time as both Nigeria continue their pursuit of glory at the continental tournament.
He emphasized the importance of team spirit, discipline, and national pride in their journey toward achieving a top finish.
It will be recalled that AljazirahNigeria earlier reported the lineup of participating nations in the championship. In the men’s category, the tournament features Nigeria, Zambia, Ghana, Kenya, South Africa, and hosts Egypt. The women’s category includes Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, and Egypt, all competing for continental honours.
