FROM SAMSON ALFA, MINNA
To curtail incessant boat mishap, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has organised a sensitisation campaign in riverine communities.
The agency observed that boat mishap and other hydrological hazards pose a significant threat to Nigeria’s economic, social and environmental well being. It suggested effective ways to enforce response strategies to mitigate its impact on communities, livelihoods and infrastructure.
The Head of Operations, NEMA, Niger and Kwara States, Hussaini Isah stated this during a stakeholders engagement on the mitigation of frequent boat mishap and response strategies held in Minna.
He explained that the agency convened the meeting in order to foster collaboration and develop ways to reduce the risk and impact of boat mishap in Niger State.
