The South-East Zone of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has officially endorsed the re-election bid of the incumbent President, Amb. Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, ahead of the Council’s National Elective Congress scheduled for September.
This endorsement was announced in a joint statement issued by the Chairmen of the NYCN in the five South-East states: Comr. Emeji Godwin, Chairman, Ebonyi State Chapter;
Comr. Ebuka Okoh, Chairman, Enugu State Chapter;Engr. Smith Silvanus, Chairman, Abia State Chapter; Surv. Emeka Obi, Chairman, Anambra State Chapter and Comr. Humphrey Osuji, Chairman, Imo State Chapter
The communiqué, released at the end of the Forum’s meeting held in Enugu and made available to journalists on Wednesday, highlighted Amb. Sukubo’s exceptional performance, leadership qualities, and dedication to youth development as key reasons for their decision.
“Amb. Sukubo’s visionary leadership, strategic planning, transparency, and unwavering commitment to youth empowerment make him the ideal candidate for another term,” the statement read.
The youth leaders praised his ability to foster national unity among young people, citing his integrity, compassion, and inclusive leadership style.
“His track record reflects a deep understanding of the complex challenges facing Nigerian youth and a proven capacity to drive meaningful progress. His leadership is marked by empathy, responsiveness, and a passion for social cohesion,” they added.
As part of their endorsement, the South-East NYCN Chairmen stated that they had formally notified relevant authorities, including:
The Federal Ministry of Youth Development
The Office of the Special Assistant to the President on Youth Initiative, Delivery, and Monitoring The National Assembly Committees on Youth Development State governments across the South-East
The Forum also announced the commencement of grassroots mobilization efforts across the five states in the zone to secure a landslide victory for Sukubo at the upcoming polls.
This endorsement adds to the growing wave of support for Sukubo from various geopolitical zones, positioning him as a formidable contender in the race for leadership of Nigeria’s apex youth body.
In a related development, the South-East NYCN Chairmen distanced themselves from individuals allegedly impersonating the National Executive Council of the NYCN, particularly naming Mr. Solomon Adodo. The Forum condemned the actions as deceptive and urged the current national leadership to pursue legal action to address the matter and deter future occurrences.
On national policy matters, the Forum also weighed in on the proposed National Youth Conference (Confab) initiated by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. They called for equitable representation and demanded that 1,000 slots be allocated to youths from the South-East.
“Inclusive participation will ensure regional concerns are effectively addressed, and solutions are tailored to meet the specific needs of South-East youths,” they said.
With the build-up to the NYCN Elective Congress intensifying, the South-East zone’s declaration adds further momentum to Sukubo’s re-election campaign and underscores regional unity in support of his continued leadership.
