Fire Razes Delta Popular Market As Goods Worth Millions Destroyed, Traders In Tears

Fire out break amidst ravaging hunger across the country, has destroyed goods worth millions of naira at the popular Nupe line of Igbudu market in Warri, Delta state on Thursday night.

The cause of the fire outbreak up until now, was still hazy but a source who didn’t want his name in the print, said that the fire started at about 11:30 during nightfall and when it was raining.

It was gathered that no life was lost, but goods were consumed by the fire which also created tension for inhabitants of some buildings around the market, including vehicles that were packed at various car parks

Traders whose goods worth millions of naira, were consumed by the fire outbreak, however appealed to the state government to come to their aid as they had nothing to sell again, adding that the outbreak of the fire wreaked completely empty considering the hash economy.

One of the traders who spoke to Journalists in the area, Mrs Modupe Stella expressed deep pains saying that over thirty traders have their goods destroyed by the fire outbreak, and called on governor Sheriff Oborevwori to come to their aid, stressing that “We nothing again in our shops because the fire consumed everything we have. We are appealing to the state governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori to come to our aid. We are yet to know the cause of the outbreak.”

One of the residents in the area, Zuberu Mohammed Tajudeen who spoke to Journalists said that, “We only perceived the smell of burning but we could not trace the exact thing that was burning. All we saw later was fire, the fire finished the building close to my building. We are appealing to the state government and other well meaning individuals to come to our aid. We thank God that no life was lost but our properties worth millions of naira were razed and we have nothing again.”

Secretary to the state Government (SSG) Dr Kingsley Emu in a swift reaction however sympathized with the traders disclosing that the state government will assist them as investigation into the cause of the fire out break, would be commenced as soon as possible

He said, “The state government sympathizes with the traders. The state government will assist the traders whose goods worth millions of naira were razed and investigating committee would be constituted to ascertain the root cause of the fire outbreak. It’s very unfortunate.”
