Bayelsa State governor, Senator Douye Diri has approved the appointment of Dr Wisdom Sawyer as the new Head of the Civil Service.
The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Daniel Alabrah disclosed this in a statement Tuesday in Yenagoa.
Alabra said Sawyer’s appointment followed the retirement of the immediate past Head of Service, Mrs Biobelemoye Charles-Onyema, on August 31.
He noted that the new head of service, who was a permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health before his elevation, joined the Bayelsa State Civil Service on June 8, 1998, as a medical officer.
Born on May 14, 1970 in Odi community, Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area, Sawyer began his primary education at Town School, Okrika in Rivers State and proceeded to Okrika Grammar School where he completed his secondary education in 1986.
In 1988, he gained admission into the University of Port Harcourt and graduated in 1996 with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, MBBS, degree.
He later obtained a Masters degree in Public Health from the University of Lagos in 2000 and in 2005, earned a postgraduate qualification from the National Post-Graduate Medical College, Lagos. In 2010, he bagged a Part 2 Fellowship in Public Health from the same institution.
Dr Sawyer, who has also defended his Ph.D dissertation in Clinical Sciences and Public Health at Niger Delta University’s Faculty of Clinical Sciences, is a member of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS.
Governor Diri congratulated the new head of service and expressed confidence that his wealth of experience and professional background would bring greater efficiency and reforms to the state’s civil service.
