The Group Chief Executive Officer (GCEO) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has alleged threats to his life and that of the company’s management team, claiming some individuals are plotting to unseat him.
Ojulari, who disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja while receiving the leadership of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), said his “offence” was the series of reforms introduced in line with President Bola Tinubu’s mandate to reposition the oil and gas sector and revive the nation’s moribund refineries.
According to him, entrenched interests opposed to the reforms are behind the alleged moves to remove him, even as he vowed not to be deterred.
He also revealed that the management was considering adopting the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) model to return the refineries to full capacity, stressing that efforts were ongoing to ensure they operate optimally.
Speaking on the concerns raised by PENGASSAN President, Comrade Festus Osifo, about stability in the NNPCL and the oil sector, Ojulari said: despite the threats to his life and those of some of his management staff, he remained committed to delivering on the reforms.
He said: “I’m not hiding to anybody. I’m not a politician. I will have to learn a bit more about politics, but it’s a development plan for me, right? And I’m ready to learn.”
