Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, deployed to the state of adequate security during their service year.

Eno gave the assurance during the swearing-in of the 2024 Batch B Stream 1 corps members deployed to the state at the NYSC Orientation Camp, Ikot Itie Udung in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs Rose Bassey, Eno warned the corps members against immoral acts during the period.

“Do not indulge in negative vices or acts capable of causing disunity. Promote national unity and cohesion while serving the nation.

“The state government will continue to perform its role of giving each and everyone of you the needed environment to serve the country.

“We are consciously taking the necessary steps to ensure that your lives are protected against all forms of molestation and abuse from any individual or group,” Eno said.

Earlier, the State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Christopher Okun, said 1,576 corps members were deployed to the state comprising 579 males and 997 females.

Okun commended the corps members for demonstrating a high sense of discipline, dedication and willingness to learn during the orientation course.

“You showed great enthusiasm and satisfactorily responded to the regiments of the camp. I consider this as an initial evidence of your determination to succeed,” he said.

Okun appealed to Akwa Ibom and the federal government to assist in connecting the camp to the national grid to ensure steady power supply. (NAN)
