From Ibrahim Goronyo, Sokoto
Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Wamakko, launched a large-scale distribution initiative on Saturday aimed at providing relief and support to the people of his district.
He said this initiative includes the distribution of 1,000 motorcycles, sewing machines, water pumping machines for irrigation farmers and 10,000 50kg bags of rice to households.
The first phase of this initiative targeted beneficiaries from Silame, Binji, Gudu and Tangaza Local Government Areas, with Tangaza serving as the launch centre for the programme.
This programme is a fulfilment of the promise that the senator made on January 8 during the disbursement of cash assistance to youth associations across the state.
The initiative targets the distribution of 1,000 50kg bags of rice to each of the four local governments, and 50 motorcycles to each area.
The breakdown shows that the beneficiaries include ward chairmen, women leaders, social media coordinators and traditional leaders.
It also featured the distribution of sewing machines to women to promote self-reliance and water pumping machines to farmers to boost dry-season farming and enhance food security.
Speaking on behalf of the senator, APC youth leader, Alhaji Nasiru Italy, emphasised that Senator Wamakko’s leadership style is inclusive, extending beyond Sokoto North Senatorial District.
Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Kabiru Kware, while flagging off the distribution of the motorcycle, described Senator Wamakko as a father and a respected leader among politicians, regardless of party affiliation.
He noted that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has overshadowed opposition parties in Sokoto, largely due to the grassroots-driven initiatives championed by Wamakko and the APC-led administration.
According to him, Senator Wamakko does not limit his interventions to his senatorial zone, but instead spreads them throughout the state.
Additionally, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, Alhaji Almustafa Alkali reaffirmed Senator Wamakko’s commitment to keep his promises and fulfill his political responsibilities with integrity.
In their remarks, Tangaza Local Government Chairman, Isah Bashir, State Assembly member, Alhaji Aliyu Lumu, Special Adviser on RUWASSA, Abubakar Dantama, and Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Nura Tangaza thanked Senator Wamakko for sustaining what they termed a tradition of empowerment.
The beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the gesture, even as they stated that the provision of vehicles, farming tools, sewing machines and food items would significantly boost their livelihoods and strengthen support for progressive politics in the state.
The exercise will continue in the remaining four local government areas, comprising Kware, Wamakko, Sokoto North and Sokoto South.
