By-Election: Onanuga Ridicules Atiku, Obi, El-Rufai After ADC’s Poor Performance

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has ridiculed leading opposition politicians following the African Democratic Congress’ (ADC) disappointing outing in the weekend bye-elections.

Onanuga, in a post on X early Monday, shared a combined photograph of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, with the caption: “How is the market now?”

His jab comes against the backdrop of recent political realignments, where the opposition leaders have been linked with the ADC as part of an emerging coalition intended to test their electoral influence ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Despite the move, results from the bye-elections showed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) retaining dominance by securing most of the contested seats. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) picked up a few wins but could not tilt the balance of power.

The development has renewed debate about the capacity of the opposition to mount a formidable challenge to President Bola Tinubu, with Onanuga’s remark viewed by many as a deliberate attempt to underscore their weaknesses.
